Building and Fire Codes
Effective January 1, 2026, all applications submitted for Building and Fire permits will be required to comply with the following California Building Standards Code (State Code or Title 24) and certified standards, which are adopted by reference with local amendments by the City of Mountain View. The adopted codes are located in Chapter 8 (Building), Chapter 14 (Fire Prevention) and Chapter 24 (Hazardous Materials) of the City Code. The Mountain View Green Building Code (MVGBC, Reach Codes) amends the California Green Building Standards Code (CalGreen) to include local green building requirements for private development. The MVGBC applies green building requirements per building type to new residential and nonresidential construction, additions, and improvements to existing buildings. The 2025 MVGBC applies to all building and fire permits submitted on or after January 1, 2026.
In addition to the State code, the City of Mountain View has adopted by reference with local amendments the 2024 International Property Maintenance Code, located in Chapter 25 of the City Code.
