Any after-hour construction work requires approval by the Chief Building Official.

"After-hour work" includes any construction activity occurring before 7 am and/or after 6 pm Monday thru Friday or on weekends. 

An after-hour construction request must be:  

  • Received no later than 4 pm the Wednesday prior to the requested after-hour work date and time. If your request date supersedes a holiday closure, requests must be received by 4 pm the Tuesday prior.  
  • Requests can be made on an as-needed basis (one week maximum). The City does not grant universal after-hour construction for the entire duration of a project.
  • Prepare your request in a PDF document and email to cmvworkrequest@mountainview.gov with the following information:
    • If you are the contractor on record, architect, or developer, prepare your request on company letterhead.
    • Project address
    • Permit number
    • Dates and times requested for after-hour work
    • List of work to be performed and size of crew to be on-site - e.g. back-fill underground storm drain, utilize light excavation equipment, field crew approximately 5
    • Contact information for questions or concerns.
  • All requests are reviewed by the Chief Building Official and an email decision on the request is provided by 12 Noon on Thursday, prior to the requested date. A copy of the approval must be kept on-site and made available to any member of the public, police, and City staff. 

Note: Requests for overnight construction work requires separate approval and must be submitted and approved 1 to 2 weeks prior to the date of construction work. Contact the Building Division for more details at 650-903-6311 or building@mountainview.gov.
