Special Inspections and Testing
What is a special inspection or test?
Chapter 17 of the California Building Code (CBC) establishes where additional inspections and testing must be provided, and the submittals and verifications that must be provided to a local City. Where indicated in the CBC, special inspections are to be conducted by a qualified individual and, in some cases, structural observation is conducted by a registered design professional. The inspections and testing provide quality assurance measures that verify proper assembly of structural components and the suitability of the installed materials are providing that a building, once constructed, complies with the minimum structural and fire-resistance code requirements, as well as the approved design. To determine this compliance often requires frequent inspections and testing at specific stages of construction. Special inspections often includes both testing and inspection of materials, installation, fabrication, erection or placement of components or connections to ensure compliance with the CBC, referenced standards adopted by the CBC, and approved construction drawings.

The list below provides contact information and services offered by special inspection and testing agencies recognized by the City of Mountain View. If an agency is not listed below, it is not recognized by the City as a qualified special inspection or testing agency in accordance with the CBC.
